Swimming Pool GamesNothing beats the summer heat better than a dip in the fresh, cool water of a swimming pool. Summer is the perfect time to host pool parties and cookouts, but what can you do with a pool full of guests? Play a few pool games – it’s great exercise and great fun. There are many pool games you can play and a quick scan of your local pool supply store will provide you with any pool toys you might need. The two most popular pool games are water volleyball and basketball. Pool supply retailers carry floating volleyball nets. In a full size in-ground pool this is a challenging game since the net typically stretches the width of the pool requiring one team to play from the deep end. Never the less, it’s a fun pool party game. The same pool supply retailers also carry floating basketball nets. Some have the option of being weighted to remain stationary or you can allow them to float freely. This means you can play in either the deep or shallow ends of an in-ground pool. Pool games in an above-ground pool don’t require the same thought to player’s varied swimming skills since the depth is consistent. Perhaps the most classic of all pool games is Marco, Polo. If you don’t know this game, you’ve missed out on some serious swimming pool fun. All that is required is a pair of blacked out swim goggles for the player who is “it”. This player can not see, only hear and their goal is to tag someone to become “it” next by shouting out “Marco!” to which the other players respond “Polo!” Following the sound of the other player’s voices, the “it” player tries to tag someone. Other pool games you can play involve diving and racing. There are sticks and rings that are weighted and sink for players to dive for. There are even sinking rings that allow players to set up an underwater obstacle course. Basically, for any number of pool games, all you need is a few pool toys and some imagination and you can make the most of your summer pool parties. |
