Kids GamesOne thing in life that has always remained the same is that kids love games. From the very first board game to the most recent handheld game, kids games account for at least one toy isle in every toy store. With such a varied selection, it’s sometimes hard to choose just the right game. Whether looking for board games, electronic games, card games, or video games, there are a few things to look for when choosing kids games. Play your favorite webkinz games. The first thing to consider is the child’s age. Many kids games range from early preschool to ages 8 and up. However, the information on the box or package is only there to serve as a guide, it’s not gospel. In other words, just because a game says ages 8 and up on the box, doesn’t mean a 6 year-old child wouldn’t enjoy the game. Similarly, a game that states it is for ages 2 to 4 may very well be an enjoyable game for a 5-year-old. However, avoid purchasing a complicated game or a game requiring advanced skills, such as reading, for a child that is too young to understand it. Also avoid buying older children games that are too easy or require no skill. If you are looking for kids games, such as card and board games, to inspire family time, stick with the classics. Candy Land, Chutes and Ladders, Uno, and Sorry! are all classic games that young children can pick up on quickly. In most cases, the pre-holiday release of newly invented games, especially those with no board but plenty of molded plastic parts, are not as much fun as they might look on TV. For the best electronic kids games, look for plug and play games that have become so popular. They are inexpensive, require little set up, and are fashioned after some of the most popular kids characters, shows, and movies. Some are even classic arcade games that can bridge generation gaps. Also very popular today are educational electronic kids games. There are handheld systems available with several popular titles that incorporate learning skills such as letters, numbers, and cognitive thinking. Leap Frog and Reader Rabbit are just a few of the major companies producing such games. When searching for video games for kids, be weary of the game rating. Just because it’s a Batman game does not mean it’s for younger children. For kids under the age of 10, it’s advised to purchase only games with an ESRB rating of E for Everyone. If you are not at all familiar with kids games and video games but are looking for a gift, don’t sweat it. First, confirm which system the child has (Nintendo Game Cube, X-Box, PS2, PSP, etc.) and if they haven’t supplied you with a wish list of titles, select the Best Sellers. Many of the games will have some sort of header on the package that alerts you to the fact that is an older game, but a favorite. You almost can’t go wrong with a best seller. Find information on adolescent psychology and learn more about what your kids are going through in life. Choosing kids games is fairly simple if you just compare things like age appropriateness, objective, and proven track records. If you still can’t decide, then ask yourself if you would like to play it or better yet, find another child in the toy isle and ask them what they think! |
